How did logic happen - and what is it good for?

This 5-days compact seminar will be taught jointly with S. Uckelman (Tilburg Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science, Tilburg University).

Main topics of the course will be: History of logic and alternate conceptions of logic (S. L. Uckelman, 2 days); cognitive aspects and basic use in cognitive science (T. R. Besold, 2 days); paper presentations and final discussion (T. R. Besold, 1 day).

Evaluation of students' participation will be based on a research paper and a presentation (based on the paper). The papers are to be prepared during the term, based on a topic selected during the first part of the seminar, under supervision from at least one of the two lecturers.
