Lai Hong served as a secondary school teacher with the Singapore Ministry of Education for several years before embarking on her journey to explore the different teaching fields.
She spent the following two years in an international school in Shanghai, China, teaching the International Baccalaureate Middle Year Programme, and coordinating their experiential learning curriculum.
Currently back in Singapore as a freelance teacher, she continues to widen her teaching scope by teaching international students in classroom context, as well as on a one-to-one basis. Through these experiences, she has developed a better understanding of the various education systems in Asia, and tailors her teaching approaches according to her learners from diverse backgrounds.
Despite being based in Singapore, she continues to seek overseas opportunities to broaden her teaching portfolio. A recently-concluded teaching trip to Surabaya, Indonesia, saw her conducting a teachers’ workshop to prepare their school for its upcoming iGCSE programme.
Lai Hong believes that the best way to shape learners is to impart the right learning attitudes, and not simply teaching the content - the role of an educator is to produce learners who learn the right way, thus learning the right knowledge.
