Sound Around Ards
Charity Number : NIC 103184
Area covered: Ards Peninsula, North Down
Sound Around Ards has around 60 listeners and 25 volunteers. We record and send out a CD fortnightly to our listeners. Items of news are taken from the "Newtownards Chronicle" and "Co Down Spectator" issued on Thursdays. The recording lasts about one hour and comprises: News items, for about 40 minutes, and the 20 minute magazine. We record items of interest such as easy recipes, jokes, a short quiz etc., and occasionally a short story or poem. Recording takes place in the old labs at Ards Hospital every Thursday evening 7pm – 8.30pm and the recorded discs are received by our listeners by Friday or Saturday, so the local news is still fresh. We have 2 teams for recording, meeting on alternate weeks.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers who can offer 2 or 3 hours every fortnight:
Technicians to record the CD and prepare the copies for posting
Readers – a clear speaking voice is essential
Editors to select the items to be read
It is important to have the right person for each task and ongoing training is offered. Reliability and commitment are essential and in return, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your voluntary work is appreciated by our listeners.
