After five-year post-doc in UCL ICN (Prof Geraint Rees) and 2-year deputy team-leader work in RIKEN CBS (Miyashita Lab), I came back as a PI to the building where I started my first human fMRI project. As a neuroscientist and psychiatrist, I have investigated how functionally and structurally different human brain areas coordinate with each other, dynamically tune their collective outputs, and realise diverse conscious/unconscious experiences in typical/atypical individuals.
Shota A Murai PhD
Project Assistant Professor
I’m broadly interested in how the brain is involved in an individual’s unique sensory and cognitive processes. Over the next few years, I’m hoping to advance the neurobiological basis in the diverse processes. Before coming to the Watanabe Lab, I completed my PhD at Doshisha Univerisity using functional magnetic resonance imaging and behavioral measures to study how the auditory system achieves speech comprehension under acoustically challenging conditions.
Shiho Tanaka PhD
Post-doctoral researcher.
I got a Ph.D. (Psychology) from Sophia University. I am a clinical psychologist and a licensed psychologist. While a student, I participated in research on ADHD and depression at the Department of Neuropsychiatry, Keio University for about 2 years. After that, I worked at RIKEN (Miyamoto Lab) for 6 months as a research part-timer and 2 years as a Junior Research Associate (JRA), and am currently a visiting researcher. I am interested in the psychological and neuroscientific mechanisms of mutual understanding and non-understanding between individuals and groups with different subjectivities.
Agnes Gao PhD
Post-doctoral researcher.
My research explores how the brain processes incoming information, specifically how neural mechanisms interact to flexibly adapt to changing contexts. I’m interested in examining the temporal and spatial structures of brain activity using EEG, fMRI, and computational approaches. Before joining the Watanabe Lab, I studied in the U.S., where I began doing EEG/language research as an undergraduate and completed my PhD at University of California Davis.
Ms Horikoshi
After graduating the master course, I have engaged in the research project focusing on education related to research for the resettlement of refugees as a research assistant at the university. Currently, I am particularly interested in human cognitive functions and the relationship between learning and apathy. Furthermore, I aspire to contribute to understanding the causes of the disease and developing treatments for diseases classified as hard-to-treat conditions.
