I am a Research Scientist at the Allen Institute for AI on the Mosaic Team.  I study the cognitive science of moral judgment and think about how that can help us build artificial intelligence systems that can interpret, predict, and produce human-like moral decisions.  My approach integrates behavioral, developmental, cross-cultural, computational, and philosophical methods and ranges from theoretical to applied.

I completed my PhD in the Rutgers University Department of Psychology and Center for Cognitive Science.  My dissertation was supervised by Alan Leslie in the Cognitive Development Lab on the the topic of moral rules and representations.  I then completed a postdoc, where I held a joint appointment at the Harvard Psychology Department (supervised by Fiery Cushman) and the MIT Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department (supervised by Joshua Tenenbaum).  I maintain Research Affiliate status with both Harvard and MIT.

I have also closely collaborated withand Iyad Rahwan (Max Planck Institute for Human Development, formerly MIT Media Lab),  Laura Schulz (MIT, Brain and Cognitive Sciences), John Mikhail (Georgetown Law), Stephen Stich (Rutgers, Philosophy), Edouard Machery (University of Pittsburgh, History and Philosophy of Science), and Nicholas Chater (Warwick Business School).
