Dr Mohamed Yacin Sikkandar had completed Bachelor's in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University (1998), graduated Master's and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in the year 2003 and 2011 respectively. He has 20 years of professional experience in teaching and research.
He started his career in 1998 as Lecturer in the Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at Sethu Institute of Technology (SIT), Madurai and worked there till December 2006. He was heading the department from 2004 during when he faced the National Board of Accreditation (NBA, New Delhi) committee and got the department accredited first time. He also served as Deputy Warden of Boys Hostel at Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, Madurai from August 1998 to December 2006. After this, he carried out full time PhD research at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) from Jan 2007 to March 2011. Then he joined Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai as Professor and Head of Biomedical Engineering Department and worked there from April 2011 to April 2016. He faced the National Board of Accreditation (NBA, New Delhi) committee and got the department accredited first time. He transformed the department to the level of Research Center approved by Anna University, Chennai during 2015. For a short span of time 2014-2015, he was given the additional responsibility of Secretary for Research and Consultancy Advisory Board (RCAB) at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai. He acted as a member of Board of Studies for the Department of Biomedical Engineering at SRM Univerity, Chennai and Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur.
Presently, he is working as a faculty of Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Medical Equipment Technology, CAMS, Majmaah University, Saudi Arabia. He is a member of Curriculum Development Committee for both Bachelor and Master program in Biomedical Engineering at Majmaah University. He is a member of professional bodies such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institution of Engineers (India) (IE (India)) and Indian Society for Applied Mechanics (ISAM). His research interests are developing computerized signal and image analysis and feature extraction tools to facilitate synergistic and correlative analysis of human pathological conditions for early diagnosis. He is a Chartered Engineer (India). He is a certified BLS Provider by Saudi Heart Association. He is familiar with many accreditation processes such as NBA, New Delhi, NCAAA, Saudi Arabia and ABET, USA.
In his credit, he has published more than 50 journal articles and fourteen international conference publications. He has presented research works in IASTED Conference BioMed 2010 held at Innsbruck, Austria and BMES Annual Meeting 2015 held at Tampa, Florida, USA. His travel was supported by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR, Govt. of India), IITMAA, IIT Madras and University Grants Commission (UGC). He delivered many plenary talks, invited lectures in faculty development programmes, workshops and conferences on Biosignal Processing Concepts and Medical Infrared Imaging to students and faculty members of various engineering colleges and Universities in India and abroad. He is a progressing academician, researcher and administrator.
