Formed in 2008 by band leader Geoff Peterson and band manager Laura Peterson, Swing Machine Big Band continues to establish local and national recognition for its professional sound. Under the musical direction of jazz saxophonist Pete BarenBregge, Swing Machine Big Band is "Not your parent's or grand-parent's jazz big band," as highlighted in Prince William Living Magazine.
MUSICAL REPERTOIRE
Swing Machine Big Band plays many traditional Sammy Nestico, Quincy Jones, and Billy May arrangements, as well as many other big band jazz pieces commissioned exclusively for the band. Jazz trumpeter Paul Murtha also contributes to the Swing Machine chart library. Mr. Murtha is a very prolific and commercially published arranger for both jazz band and concert band charts.
EXPERIENCE
Members of Swing Machine have performed with Frank Sinatra, Jr., Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Dianne Schuur, Charlie Byrd, Carlos Santana, Grover Washington Jr., Chuck Mangione, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Mel Torme, Johnny Mathis, Henry Mancini, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Modern English, Ben Vereen, Frankie Avalon, The Platters, Maureen McGovern, 5th Dimension, Blues Traveler, Ray Charles, Barry Manilow, Al Jarreau, Harry Connick, Jr., Gladys Knight, the Temptations, Four Tops and the O-Jays, and more. Additionally, many have performed for Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and George "W" Bush.

Swing Machine Big Band is an All Star jazz big band, comprised of many former members of the Air Force Airmen of Note, Army Blues, Navy Commodores, Glenn Miller Orchestra and other professional jazz musicians from the Washington DC area. Swing Machine features exceptional solo talent, and plays a wide variety of traditional swing era songs in addition to many contemporary jazz selections.
Swing Machine can provide perfect background music during dinner for your guests, and swing into an evening of great music that will keep your guests on the dance floor all night! Swing Machine also provides DJ music (on request) during band breaks. So from start to finish, your entertainment package is complete! Our musicians can also provide classical entertainment such as Pachelbel's Canon in D and Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary at your wedding ceremony.
Swing Machine's Master of Ceremonies and Front Man, Geoff Peterson, with over 25 years in the Washington DC commercial radio and entertainment industry, will keep your event running smoothly like a well-oiled "Machine". He has emceed hundreds of wedding receptions, corporate events and other functions including events on the Washington Monument grounds, Sylvan Theatre and the former Capital Center while working as an on-air announcer for Washington radio stations such as WAVA, Q-107, WPGC and WMZQ.
