* Q.1) SOCIAL DANCE
Q.1-1) Can you recommend specific swing bars or communities?
A.1-1) For social dancing, we call it 'General' in Korea, popular places are Big Apple on Mon, Swing Time
on Tue/Sun, Boogie Woogie on Thr/Sat, and Happy Bar on Fri, which depends on situations and personal
preferences. Here is more information about this. Swing dance communities or clubs are frequently chosen
according to th e distance or transportation convenience.
Q.1-2) Where can I find telephone numbers of swing bars?
A.1-2) Mostly, swing bars are not equipped with telephones or receptionists not only for English but also for
Korean. You can contact forums or communities linked to the maps instead if you are available in Korean.
Otherwise contact me or other swing dancers in Korea.

* Q.2) LESSONS / CLASSES
Q.2-1) How can I get swing dance lessons in Korea?
A.2-1) In Korea, most ‘swing dance communities or clubs’ based on local ‘swing bars’ have regular East
Coast Swing (called as Jitterbug) classes for beginners and basic Lindy Hop courses on weekend. A class
lasts for about 2 hours on Saturday or Sunday afternoon and it usually takes 2 months to finish each course.
The atmosphere is warm and friendly for foreigners to attend, while instructions are provided in Korean only.
You can choose one swing bar you like from the LOCATION & MAP section, visit online forum of the
community, and apply for any course you want to take.
Q.2-2) Are lessons frequently followed by social dances?
A.2-2) Usually not. Classes and social dances are squarely distinguished in Korea except for special events
or occasions.

* Q.3) CULTURAL GAP
Q.3-1) What is the Swing Bar?
A.3-1) It is very Korean style of the dancing place. Dancers call the Swing Bar, because we are only doing
swing dance(social & class) at there. It is usually located at the basement.
There are also some terms difference. Please refer to the table below.
Q.3-2) What is 'Dwipuri'(A Wrap-up Party)?
A.3-2) You might have heard of Korea’s crazy ‘night out culture’, which is directly reflected in swing dance
scenes in Korea. Local swing dancers usually have a “Dwipuri” after social dancing. It can be a casual thing
like a can of beer at the convenient store or an all night binge with mixed alcohol at the large pub. Korean
dancers keep close relations with each other while hanging out together at a round of parties.
Q.3-3) Is there any Korean dancers' specific character on the floor?
A.3-3) - Korean dancers usually do not refuse the asking of dance unless specific reason. Korean dancers
will be upset if you dance with another leader/follower just after refuse to dance. So it is a good manner if you
ask back to dance to somebody you refused to dance for the next song you dance.
- Usually more followers are on the floor, so it is common that follows ask to dance to leads. Also many
Korean dancers ask to dance someone they already know, so you may request to dance if you are the first
time visitor. It is not means that Korean dancers are unfriendly, it is more because of shy.
- Beginner level dancers frequently ask for their partners’ understanding by revealing their levels in advance.
- Korean dancers usually dance for one song with one partner, however you could dance more than 2 songs
in a row.

* Q.4) THIS SITE
Q.4-1) What is the difference between brackets and barce for the name of bars at the menu on the
left side?
A.4-1) I use square bracket as [The Swing Bar] for the swing bar which is mainly opening for the swing dance.
However I use brace as {Willy Willy} for the place if it is not a swing bar but the Dance Sports Institute or
the Salsa bar. I also use parenthesis as (Swing Island) for the studio if it is mainly rent for the swing dance.
