There's a Welcome in the Hillside!

Ok, so it's been a while since our last news item but that doesn't mean SMC members have been sat twiddling their collective thumbs! Many managed to incorporate climbing and other outdoor pursuits into their summer holidays, and these stories, and other tales, were recounted this weekend at the Club Annual Dinner, held this year in Pengenfford in the Brecon Beacons, superbly organised by Theresa.

The weather was not particularly kind, but on Saturday some braved the conditions to summit Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, Martin went fell running, Pet went horse riding, and several opted for the Llangorse Climbing Centre! That evening we enjoyed a fine meal in The Dragons Back inn, the highest pub in the Beacons, 'serenaded' by members of another club staying at the inn's bunkhouse!

The Annual Dinner is the traditional venue for recognising the 'achievements' of members during the preceding 12 months, and often solicits fancy dress, this year's theme being 'Wales vs Whales'!

Among our 2015 prize winners:

The Altitude Award

- went to Andy D, for attaining 3882m on Piz Palu in the Bernina Alps. Colin B & Mike P could only make 3rd place this year!!!

The Photo Competition

- was also won by Andy D for this stunning image (presumably taken on Piz Palu!)

The Fancy Dress Prize

- was jointly awarded to Pet and Simon (as both received 8 votes and the Chairman chickened out of making a casting vote!) for their 'jellyfish' (a whale delicacy) and 'whaler' (complete with fake blood) costumes, respectively.
