Horse Lessons

Horse Lessons

Sweet Meadow  Stable prides itself on their unique approach to horses. In fact, we dropped the word "riding" in lessons and added the word "horse" instead.

That's right, we offer in-depth "horse lessons' with the focus being on horses in their entirety, not just riding them.

Students of all ages learn everything there is. The goal is to gain enough knowledge to own a horse,  so our students earn their way to the saddle with confidence and understanding. This is done by learning basic natural horsemanship techniques that Shelley draws from famous trainers such as Pat Parelli and John Lyons.

It is these same  "natural" minded techniques that allowed Shelley to rescue and rehabilitate more than 30 horses from their  challenging pasts.

In addition, subjects like worming, diagnosing and understanding lameness, health issues and even inside seated lessons where breed facts, colors and more are taught in weekly classes. Our students learn both English and Western styles of riding eventually exploring  disciplines such as dressage to barrel racing. Our goal is to have students who are not only proficient riding, but equally knowledgeable on the care, maintenance  and responsibility of horses and be multi-disciplined.

Our horse lessons are great for ages 6-adult and are typically given in pairs (2 people at a time.) These lessons are just over 1 hour long and enrolled students come rain or shine. Occasionally private lessons are available.

Kinderlessons/ Petting Area Combo

**Kinderlesson pony rides/ petting area combo are available every week by reservation only. No walk in's **

More than a pony ride but not a lengthy lesson, our kinderlesson rides are the perfect option!

For those temporarily visiting the area or waiting to enroll in our more in-depth, horse lesson program, a pony kinderlesson is sure to please.

While the ride itself is an long as pony ride, Shelley teaches one or two techniques that allow students to learn and practice  english and western styles of riding making it a pony ride lesson.

If students don't feel ready to ride, they can keep their feet on the ground and choose to focus on proper grooming instead. Students learn to feed their horse a treat at the end.  These short rides are great for all children.

The mini petting area includes:

1 bag of snacks to feed the goats, alpaca, horses, chickens, turkeys & peacock.  Children may also  choose to collect chicken eggs and harvest garden veggies when in season.
