Course overview
American Government is an introduction to the institutions, operations, policies, and problems of American government today. In this course, we will examine issues such as the United States’ Constitutional development, the impact of the President, the Congress, the bureaucracy, and the courts on daily life, civil rights and liberties, the press and the mass media, political parties and interest groups, voting and elections, the domestic and foreign policies of the federal government and the problems of state and local government. Throughout the course, we will examine the theories, values, and behavior underlying the American political system.
Course Format
This class is entirely online. The class site will be hosted on Canvas. There are no mandatory in person meetings.
Course Textbook
We will be using the below textbook in the course. You are permitted to purchase older editions of this book. There are many affordable copies of this book available used from online bookstores. Be be sure to purchase the book as soon as possible. You will need it by the second week of class.
