Requires a valid ND Educator's License, preferably a Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. The Sheyenne Valley Special Education Unit is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behavior Specialist to join our team and support our efforts in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. The Behavior Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and other school staff to address behavioral challenges, implement evidence-based interventions, and promote positive behavior among students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behavior management, expertise in working with diverse student disability populations, and a passion for supporting the social-emotional well-being of students.

 

Responsibilities:

·   Conducting Functional Behavior Assessments for students with behavioral challenges, emotional disturbances, or learning disabilities.

·   Developing Behavior Intervention Plans and interventions tailored to the specific needs of students, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.

·   Collaborating with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to create a supportive and cohesive approach to addressing behavioral concerns. This may involve attending meetings, providing recommendations, and offering support and training to school personnel.

·   Providing support during crisis situations, such as incidents of aggression, violence, or emotional distress among students. This may involve implementing de-escalation techniques, crisis management strategies, and coordinating with appropriate support services.

·   Providing guidance and coaching to teachers on implementation of individual student Behavior Intervention plans, behavior techniques, positive behavior reinforcement strategies, and ways to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

·   Collecting and analyzing data on student behavior(s) to track progress, identify patterns, and inform decision-making regarding intervention strategies and adjustments to behavior plans.

·   Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices, research findings, and emerging trends in the field of behavioral intervention and support.

Qualifications

·   Must hold a ND educator’s license or must be licensable by the Education Standards and Practices Board.

·   Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred. 

·   Certification as a Behavior Intervention Specialist required or be willing to obtain certification.

·   Experience working with students with behavioral challenges, special needs, or diverse backgrounds in an educational setting.

·   Strong understanding of behavior management techniques, positive behavior reinforcement strategies, and evidence-based interventions.

·   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

·   Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

·   Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current on best practices in the field of behavior intervention and support.
