Volunteer
Parents have many opportunities to volunteer at Lakeside Middle School.
Sign up for Lakeside Matters (aka "Shark Mail) to receive requests from teachers and the PTO for specific needs as events approach. Via Sign-Up Genius (SUG) links, you can click on the best job for you!
Brief descriptions of some of the volunteer opportunities:
**Note that due to the current pandemic, some of these items will not be held during the 2021-2022 school year.**
Back to School Packets - Assist the office staff with assembling back to school folders the week before school starts.
Band Boosters - Assist Band teacher with fundraising and coordination.
Book Fair - Assist the SMS Librarian with setting up, acting as cashier, or tearing down Scholastic Book Fair in late September.
Box Tops - Advertise collection, cut, count and submit box tops.
Carnival - Help run a game or chaperone the dance for the late February Carnival organized by SMS Teacher Gale Rainey.
Chaperone Dances - Sell concessions, watch doors to prevent exit, or patrol the dance floor.
Destination Imagination - Coach team for local competition in March.
Dining Out Night Coordination - Arrange night with local restaurants, advertise to families, track payment checks.
Donut Days - Select local donut shops, place order and pick up donuts. Monthly treat for teachers and administrators.
Eighth Grade Dance Committee - Help provide a night to remember with food, decorations, giveaways, invitations, photos, etc.
Field Day - Help Sutherland staff run games and activities during this fun event at the end of the year.
Grocery Program - Register Sutherland with retail store programs and publicize to families.
Hospitality Committee - Provide teacher lunch before school starts, dinner during conference nights, lunch at end of year.
ICA (Intramurals/Clubs/Activities) - Sell concessions for the PE department at the beginning of ICA (40 minutes each month).
PE 5K Run - Assist PE teachers and students by directing around the course, handing out water, or tracking times for the final 5k.
Teacher Appreciation Committee - Plan and execute a fantastic teacher appreciation week in May.
