Short Bio

Suresh Chavhan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Data Science at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram. Before this, he served as an Assistant Professor at IIIT Raichur, Karnataka, IIIT Kottayam, Kerala, and VIT Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), Teresina - PI, Brazil, and a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at IISc Bangalore, India. He completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, M.Tech. from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal, Karnataka, and B.E. from VTU Belgaum, Karnataka. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Member of ACM, and an Associate Editor of the Alexandria Engineering Journal, published by Elsevier. He has received a few awards, including the 2021 IEEE Systems Journal Best Paper Award, the 2021 IEEE Madras Section's Publication Award, the Faculty Research Award from VIT Vellore, an Honorary Rosalind Membership from London Journals Press, and an International Travel Grant from the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). His research interests include AI-assisted B5G/6G wireless communication and networking, network slicing, AI/ML/Deep and federated learning, edge intelligence, V2X, drone communication systems, next-generation intelligent transportation systems, edge/fog/cloud computing, and real-time intelligent systems.

Current openings:

I am looking for Ph.D. students interested in Deep Learning/Machine Learning, Federated Learning, 5G, Drone Communication, Edge Intelligence with AI, 3D networking, Zero Touch Networks, the Age of Information in ITS, etc.

I am offering an Internship in AI-assisted B5G/6G Wireless Networking, Network Slicing, Digital-Twin-enabled Networking, Edge Intelligence, Autonomous Vehicular Networks, and Protocol Design for IoT.

June 2025: Dr. Suresh Chavhan delivered an invited talk at the Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Exploring IoT in the Digital Era” on 17th June 2025, organized by the E & ICT Academy, NIT Warangal, in association with IIIT Kottayam, and sponsored by MeitY, Government of India.
April 2025: Accepted an article in the IEEE IoT Journal.
March 2025: Received a grant from ANRF for 3 years
February 2025: Delivered a talk titled "From Simulation to Real Time: Developing Intelligent RTLS with UWB and AI" at the Frontiers Symposium, organized by the Department of Data Science, IISER TVM, from January 31 to February 2, 2025.
January 2025: Accepted an article in the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics.
April 2024: Accepted three papers in the International Conference SpliTech 2024.
February 2024: Accepted an article in IEEE INFOCOM (A* Conference).
January 2024: Became an ACM Member.
December 16, 2023: Delivered an invited talk in a 5-Day Skill Development Program on Industrial Applications of Unmanned Ground Rovers, supported by TIHAN-IITH at VIT, Vellore.
November 2023: Served as a session chair for the 7th International Conference on Innovative Computing and Communication (ICICC 2024).
September 2023: Accepted an article in the Alexandria Engineering Journal (I.F. = 6.3).
