Professional Activities

Committee Member: SEI-ASCE's Task Group 3 (TG3) on the risk assessment of structural and Infrastructural Systems (2016 - present)

The purpose of the TG3 committee to promote the study, research, and applications of scientific principles of risk assessment and risk-based decision making in structural engineering. I am mainly focused on the application of machine learning techniques in the network reliability estimation.

President: EERI Georgia Tech chapter (2014 - 2017)

As part of the new EERI Goes to High School program, I visited various schools in Georgia along with other EERI officers. During the visit, we showed a presentation regarding earthquake engineering and earthquake hazard mitigation. After a Q & A session with the students, shake table demos were shown to demonstrate the effects of mass and stiffness on structural frequencies and general EQ response using sinusoidal excitation as well as Kobe and North ridge ground motion records. The students were also given an opportunity to build their own models for shake-table testing. Overall the activities were effective in creating interest in engineering among high school students. More details can be found in the GT EERI website
