My research interests are broadly in the domains of Ubiquitous Computing, IoT and Edge Computing, Wireless sensor and mobile ad hoc networks, Distributed Systems and Smart city applications. My research philosophy is mostly driven by the Mark Weiser' vision of calm technology, that aims to offer seamless integration into the surroundings avoiding the need for explicit intervention. My research objectives are primarily designed to capture the systems engineering aspects of human to machine interaction where 'machine' signifies the intelligent 'things' of 'IoT' integrated into our daily lives. Few research directions as I am pursuing with my students and collaborators are listed below.
Understanding user behavior through inertial sensing
Task offloading and microservices management in MEC
Decentralized trust computation and reputation system in IoT and CPS
Context aware data sourcing from extreme edge
Situation-awareness in Connected and Autonomous vehicles
IoT intervention in wild habitat monitoring
Sensing as a service middleware for applications of human sensing

Campus Testbed for Smart Building Monitoring:
In this project, we explored the significance of edge based in-network data processing in the context of smart building monitoring applications. We focused on the problem of sensory data collection from heterogeneous edge devices at low cost. Towards that we designed and developed cost-effective solutions involving context-awareness, data fusion, filtration, sensor ranking, forwarder selection and so on. A testbed has been deployed in the academic building of IIIT Guwahati. Raspberry Pi 3B and 3B+ has been configured with different sets of sensors to monitor the environment. The devices communicate with each other using IEEE 802.11 standards in an ad-hoc mode as per the current configuration. To evaluate the performance we considered crowd and occupancy estimation as a case study.
