Story Arcs

Jack will start of the year strong and eager with a nice stable life, but soon he will start to lose his confidence in himself as a teacher. School turns out to be harder than he thought, the students walk all over him, and he has no luck in finding full time employment.

His main interest becomes the beautiful new art teacher, Alexis. While he tries to gain her attention to develop a relationship, her true feelings are scarcely revealed, further damaging his self-confidence.

Stress at school ruins his finely structured life, which he can’t take. A once clean living young man turns to casual drugs to relieve his stress with his friends. By years end, he’ll be slightly more like Simon and Vince in their attitudes towards life, but still fight for stability.

Molly’s relationship with her man Vince Gold is put under constant strain throughout the year. She is caught between her double life of partying and being professional, wanting to move toward the latter.

Her goal is to prove herself in the real world. A part of her feels held back because her boyfriend Vince is not about moving on, and their lives clearly start going in opposite directions.

Vince and Molly’s rocky relationship takes a turn for the worse, and her stress with her job makes her party a bit harder than she should. She develops a closer friendship with Jack, because he’s stable and likes his redeeming qualities. Their friendship may become closer than they anticipated.

Vince’s band This End Up is his primary focus this year, much to the dismay of his girlfriend. His personality as a certified slacker stays intact, but he must choose between his band and Molly.

His band takes off with the high school kids, and their popularity increases substantially. By years end, they have the attention of a major record label. They give Vince and the band an opportunity to start touring and record an album. He can stay behind and try to fix things, or leave and follow his dream of being a musician. However he is not all that excited about compromising his music for a major label either.

To make matters worse, his old rival Principal Murray is hellbent to have Vince punished for his past infractions, but Vince has plans for Murray of his own.

Simon becomes a very confrontational person with the administration, arguing about his methods of teaching. He responds by teaching the kids in his own way and gains their trust against the "evil empire".

All the while, Simon renews his interest in his past science background and develops an experiment so astounding, he petitions to enter it into the student science fair.

However, Simon clashes with the administration so much that he is on the verge of being fired, and they try to thwart his entry into the science competition. The students have grown to love Simon for being the voice of the voiceless, and start a “Save Simon” campaign, complete with t-shirts and placards. This protest may bring school to a standstill.
