American Suburbia

This course investigates the dominant themes and legacies of suburbanization in modern America through a focus on social, economic, and political history. It pays attention to race and ethnicity, particularly the history of African Americans and immigrants in the suburbs. Students will study suburban communities in New Jersey, New York, California, Illinois, Georgia, and elsewhere.
