Since 1995 over 2000 students have participated in this program. We love Japanese and Chinese students and are always amazed at what happens to both students and hosts during the program, as relationships are formed.

We have been teachers for over 40 years. We have two daughters and two grandchildren. Sharon enjoys crafts and stamping. Mark enjoys tennis and fishing.

Lisa Bekemeyer

Lisa has worked with international students for many years. She loves other languages, cultures and traveling.

Lisa is married to Steve, a history teacher, and has 2 teen boys, Luke and Noah. They enjoy camping and spending time outside as a family.

Rachel & Drew McLaughlin

Program Directors Rikkyo University

Drew and Rachel are both educators. In their free time, they enjoy reading, biking, and traveling.

Rachel and Drew met while teaching at an American school in Monterrey, Mexico. They have both been intrigued about other cultures and interacting with international students. This interest led them both to teach abroad and to get involved with SPII.
