🌟 Stone Mill Students Give Back: Comfort Cases Project 🌟
Building stronger families, students, and neighborhoods together!
When children enter foster care, they're often handed a trash bag to carry their belongings. Stone Mill students want to change that — by providing new backpacks filled with a few items to offer comfort and dignity during a difficult time. A backpack can't fix everything, but it can show these children that someone cares. Together let’s help make a difference.
❓ How can Stone Mill students help?
✅ By making Comfort Cases!
🎯 Our goal: 100 Comfort Cases!
✨ What is Comfort Cases?
Comfort Cases is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring dignity and hope to youth in foster care.
Sadly, many children entering foster care are given a trash bag to pack their belongings—something meant for garbage, not treasured possessions. This sends a painful message of instability, fear, and lack of worth.
A Comfort Case replaces that trash bag with a backpack filled with essentials and comfort items, showing every child that they are valued and loved.
❓ What goes inside a Comfort Case?
A Comfort Case includes personal care items and small comforts—things that make a child’s first few hours in foster care less frightening and more dignified.
❓ What do Stone Mill students need to do?
Each grade level is responsible for donating specific items (for children ages 3–10):
Kindergarten (3 classes): Stuffed animal (10” or smaller)
1st Grade (4 classes): Small blanket (no larger than 30”x40”)
2nd Grade (3 classes): Toothbrush (1–3 pack), toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body soap/wash (travel size), coloring book + crayons (8–36 pack)
3rd Grade (4 classes): Pajamas (sizes 3T–8/10, no nightgowns please)
4th Grade (4 classes): Book (keep themes general—avoid family/mom/dad/love topics)
5th Grade (3 classes): Small backpack or duffel bag
💡 Families may donate more than one item if they wish.
❓ When and where is this happening?
📦 Supplies will be collected at school. Students can drop items in clearly labeled boxes.
📅 Collection Dates: October 1 – October 30, 2025
🎤 Event: Thursday, November 6, 2025 (immediately after the PTA meeting in the APR/Cafeteria)
The event will feature a short prerecorded message from Rob Scheer, founder of Comfort Cases, sharing his inspiring journey. Afterwards, students will assemble the backpacks using donated supplies.
✨ Bonus: Students can also earn SSL hours by participating!
