Our Council has a number of service projects in place that help to raise funds that support a wide variety of programs within our Church Parish.
Charity Calendar Raffle Program
This is a joint program that we participate in with two other Councils. We sell 2000 raffle calendars with guaranteed payouts for each day of the year. Proceeds from the sale of the calendars are used to fund a number of the Council 10744 activities listed below. Calendar sales occur in the Fall of each year.
Spaghetti Dinner Sale Fundraiser
This event is typically held in the early Spring of each year, normally the first Sunday in March. KC members prepare over 900 spaghetti and meatball dinner plates that are sold to raise monies that provide supplemental income that support Council activities.
This event that is also called the Tootsie Roll Drive and occurs on one weekend during the Fall. Members are placed at certain local businesses and collect donations in exchange for pieces of candy. Our Council uses the proceeds from this event to fund over $1,000 annually to Port City Enterprises, a non-profit organization that for over 50 years provides vocational training opportunities, supported community living options, as well as rehabilitation services to persons with developmental disabilities. Port City Enterprises' philosophy is to enable persons with disabilities to live and work as independently as possible by providing necessary support for that person to maintain his or her placement of residence and/or employment.
First Sunday Coffee and Doughnuts
Immediately following 7:30am Mass on the first Sunday of each month, the Council sponsors a Coffee and Doughnuts breakfast as a way for parishioners to meet and mingle. Sunday morning classes for Christian Formation are also provided with breakfast.
Feast on the Levee Gumbo Sales
In conjunction with the Parish Feast on the Levee in the Fall of each year, the Council prepares a chicken and sausage gumbo.
KC Councils from around the area provide meals to the LSU Catholic students at Christ the King Church on Thursdays throughout the year. Our Council typically cooks a meal of red beans and rice during the fall semester exam period.
Catholic Charities for Unwed Mothers
Each year, the Council participates in the Parish drive to collect maternity related supplies to assist unwed mothers with the financial strain of raising infants. This project is sponsored by the Catholic Charities organization.
In 2012, the Council re-instituted its practice of providing monies to help support seminarians that will eventually be stationed in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Each year, two or three seminarians are selected with assistance from the Office of Vocations, and they are recognized with $1,000 stipends at one of our summer meetings.
Catholic Youth Leadership Awards
Each year, our Council recognizes a young man and young woman from within the Parish to receive this award. Applications are due to the Council by mid January. Awards are presented at the Council's Awards Dinner in July of each year.
