At the heart of much of our work is Rindoon, the remarkable medieval settlement on the shores of Lough Ree.
Founded in the early thirteenth century, Rindoon developed as a fortified settlement and became an important centre on the western shore of Lough Ree. Its surviving walls, towers, castle, church and other remains provide an extraordinary insight into medieval life in the region.
The group has worked with landowners, Roscommon County Council and heritage organisations to support the conservation and interpretation of the site.
Rindoon has been a major focus of the group's heritage work.
The group has been involved in conservation work on the town walls and towers, the parish church and St. John's Hospital, as well as the development of a heritage walk and information signage.
Heritage Council records document financial support for conservation works at Rinn Duin, including a €60,000 grant for conservation of the town wall and gatehouse in 2012 and a €30,000 allocation for urgent conservation works to the wall in 2017.
