St. John's Lutheran Church

These phrases—Witness, Mercy, Life Together—illustrate how the church lives and works together to proclaim the Gospel and to provide for our brothers and sisters in Christ in our congregations, communities and throughout the world. And in all we do, Christ is at the center, leading us, sustaining us, keeping us focused on our mission. This will never change.

St. John’s Cancellation Policy

It’s winter time in Iowa! That means the potential for dangerous road conditions could happen at any time. This is a review of the procedure for cancelling services at St. John’s.

As a general rule, we will NOT cancel worship services. In the case of extreme white-out or ice conditions where “no travel” is advised by local law enforcement, we will contact the radio stations KIWA Sheldon and KICD Spencer. That announcement will be made no later than one hour before the worship service. Every effort will be made to also put the notice out on Facebook, text message and/or e-mail.

You must also consider the conditions for yourself. If your own drive and the roads are impassable, you need to keep yourself and your family safe.

Signed the Elders of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sanborn, IA

St. John’s Lutheran Church is located in the Northwest Iowa community of Sanborn. Our congregation was established in 1886.

St. John’s is a welcoming family of believers. We are sinners, who gather together to hear God’s Word, receive forgiveness of our sin for Jesus’ sake, partake of Christ’s sacraments, and give thanks and praise to our Triune God for all His mercy and gifts.

St. John’s worship services follow the historic liturgies of the Christian Church, as they are preserved in our hymnal, Lutheran Service Book. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month and other days throughout the year. All visitors are kindly asked to speak with Pastor before coming to the Lord’s Table.

Having received Christ’s mercy and forgiveness, we seek to share that same mercy and forgiveness with those around us.

We would love for you to visit us for worship, Bible study, or other events.
