Each class at Still Mountain follows a gentle, steady rhythm designed to help you arrive, settle, learn, and leave feeling more balanced than when you came.
Arriving & Reconnecting
We begin with simple greetings and a brief social reconnect. This helps us arrive fully, check in with one another, and create a supportive learning environment.
We ease into movement with warm‑up exercises and Qigong practices that prepare the joints, awaken the breath, and bring attention into the body. These movements are accessible to all levels and set the tone for mindful practice.
The heart of each class is learning and practicing Tai Chi or Qigong forms.
We focus on:
Tai Chi for Health principles
Clear, safe body mechanics
Steady progress at each student’s pace
Modifications to support different abilities, balance levels, and comfort
While we occasionally explain martial applications to clarify posture, alignment, and intention, the emphasis of most classes is health, balance, confidence, and ease—not combat.
We end with gentle cool‑down movements and a moment to settle the breath before returning to daily life. Students leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and connected.
What to Wear to Tai Chi Class
Wear comfortable, loose or gently fitted and flexible workout clothing that allows you to move freely. Many students wear sweatpants, yoga pants or simple athletic wear. Layers are helpful so you can adjust as you warm up.
Wear low-profile, flat-soled shoes with no, or a very low heel and with high flexibility that allow you to feel the ground while providing some traction (not running or cross-training shoes that pitch you forward). Shoes should allow you to pivot on the ball of your foot. Here is a reference to help you pick shoes: https://taichibasics.com/tai-chi-shoes/.
Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.
Avoid heavy jewelry or anything that might catch during movement.
No special gear or uniforms are required
