What is the purpose of the Bed of Nails?
Although the bed of nails was used by the ancient Indians as a means to relieve back pain and other physical pains, the purpose of the Bed of Nails PBL project is to demonstrate the physics behind it. The Bed of Nails demonstrates the equal distribution of weight among numerous points of pressure. It was a very interesting project since people are skeptical about lying on a bed of nails, thinking that they will get hurt. In the end, they realize that they don't and it shocks them.
How can this project be applied to real life situations?
In an era where physical pains such as the very-common back pain have become a major issue, the Bed of Nails can offer a solution. It has proven effective for thousands of years for the people that have used it in history. The Bed of Nails sets a blueprint for sophisticated medical instruments that can help relieve pain in the future.
Who benefits from this project?
If future medical research were to develop machines based on the Bed of Nails, millions of people would benefit from it. Old people with back problems would be relieved the most. Today, there are thousands of "magic pills" out there that are said to cure any illness. The Bed of Nails is a physical therapy and doesn't require patients to digest chemicals that can be harmful or have side effects. Additionally, the Bed of Nails has proven its effectiveness before any of the recent medical advancements were made.
