When I first started, I wanted to choose something interesting. One project that caught my eye was the Gauss Rifle because I have an interest in weaponry. I was disappointed by the examples, so I sought out a linear design because it seemed to demonstrate the principal most effectively. Explaining the principal was not too difficult, the kinetic energy of the ball is transferred to the next but it gets faster because magnetic attraction adds to that energy. The PBL has gone smoothly so far. When we had to make an action video, I was worried because I had not ordered materials. Luckily I ordered the magnets which came in on time, but the steel balls did not because of Hurricane Irma. I was able to improvise by using smaller 3/8" slingshot ammo instead of 1/2", but it meant I had to add more balls. I tested the supplies to see if they worked. The magnets were very strong and I pinched myself several times and the slingshot ammo did stick to the magnets which were good. Then I assembled the rifle, which consisted of taping the magnets to the ruler. When I was half-way through, I realized the poles were not aligned and I had to re-tape them again. Then I added the steel balls, which did stick, but the reaction did not work because they were too strongly attached to the magnets, so I added a third one to each set. Then I hastily took pictures and video which did not show up for my teacher. It took me a few shots to get good footage too. Then I had to fix the issue by redownloading the images and reuploading them and wait an hour for the video to upload to Youtube. Then the next few parts of the project were boring because they were just a bunch of writing nonsense like this one I am doing. That was not all, I still have to write more. I decided on a narrative essay because I find it the simplest to write. When I sat down on my primary desktop and type for a long time. I am not a good writer, I do better in science and math than in English because I find English to be less straight forwards than math or science. I can easily tell when I am wrong, but English is more subjective and is more based on the teacher's view than in other subjects. All I have to do in a narrative essay is write what is happening. After the ELA Component, I have to write a similar thing called the SS component that covers real-life connections regarding my project rather than from my point of view. The procedures are the same except for the subject. Finding some info regarding my project may be a little more difficult because there is not much information directly regarding weaponized linear accelerators but there is plenty of information regarding particle accelerators. After that, we still need to expand on each of the writing components. That can be achieved by adding fluff, or unnecessary words and information to make the text longer. It is surprising how long I was able to write this much. Luckily I get two weeks to write that when all I really need is a couple of days. I will be looking forward to the part where we need to make a video about our project because I believe my video making skills are decent and I get to incorporate my own elements into them. The hardest part will probably be filming the video because I need perfect shots and I need to make sure I get my lines out.
