June 2026

• "CESAR: A Convolutional Echo State AutoencodeR for High-Resolution Wind Forecasting" with Luca Menicali, Paolo Giani, and Paola Crippa has been accepted for publication in Journal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation 

• "Chug, Run, Repeat: A Statistical Analysis of Beer Mile Performance" with Luca Menicali, Neil Nicholson,  Ranjan Rohatgi and Francis Aznaran has been accepted for publication in Significance. This is also the front story of the journal July's issue.   

May 2026

• Starting next academic year, I will be (full) Professor. 

• I have been appointed Dean's Faculty Fellow for the academic year 2026-2027 within the College of Science.  

April 2026

• "A Spatiotemporal Physics-Motivated State-Space Model of Lake Temperature Profiles" with Luca Menicali, Diogo Bolster, David Richter, Stephen Jane and Stuart Jones has been accepted for publication in Environmental Science & Technology

Background

I obtained my BSc and MSc in Mathematical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in 2005 and 2007 respectively. After a 6 months fellowship at the same institution, I moved to the University of Chicago where I obtained my PhD in Statistics in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Michael Stein. In 2013 I moved to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia), where I was a Postdoctoral Fellow working with Prof. Marc Genton. From 2014 to 2017 I was Lecturer at Newcastle University (United Kingdom), before moving to the University of Notre Dame where I was appointed Assistant Professor (2017-2021), Huisking Foundation, Inc. Assistant Professor (2021-2022), Associate Professor (2022-2024), Notre Dame Collegiate Associate Professor (2024-2026) and Professor (2026-).
