    History of St. Charles Borromeo Pointe-Aux-Chenes:

The first mass celebrated in Pointe-Aux-Chenes was in1920 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eusebe Rodrigue.

On May 10, 1921, Father Pierre of Sacred Heart Parish in Montegut received permission from Archbishop Shaw of New Orleans to build the first chapel in Pointe-Aux Chenes. The chapel was destroyed by a hurricane in 1926 and the men of Pointe-Aux-Chenes repaired it and paid the debt.

On April 10,1938, Father Henry Charles Bezou celebrated Palm Sunday Mass. This was the first time that mass was celebrated on Sunday prior to that time mass was celebrated only on Saturday. In the summer of 1940, construction began on the new church that would replace the chapel. The church was dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo, and was blessed as a mission church by Archbishop Francis Rummel of New Orleans. This church still stands today and is now home to the St. Charles Borromeo Knights of Columbus Council #8616.

On June 2, 1962, Father Roch Naquin of Isle de Jean Charles was ordained a priest. He is currently retired and lives in Ilse de Jean Charles, and continues to serve the people of the Diocese.

On June 2, 1965, Hurricane Betsy suspended the little chapel in an oak tree. Construction of St. Charles Borromeo began in 1965. The first mass celebrated in the new St Charles Borromeo was the Christmas Midnight Mass of 1966.

In 1968, Father James Herbert, assistant pastor of Sacred Heart was the first priest to reside in St. Charles Parish.

The first Pointe-Aux-Chenes Cajun Festival was held in 1969 and the last was held in 1982. On June 23,1971, St Charles Parish was officially established. Father Donald Ledet was pastor of the Parish.

In 1978, Father Antoine Lemire became pastor of St. Charles Borromeo. It was during his tenure that the rectory was built. The rectory was completed and dedicated in 1976.

In 1978, a Christmas tree caught fire and caused damage to the carpet and the Tabernacle. While repairs were being made Mass was celebrated in the original church building.

Father Thomas Bouterie became pastor of St. Charles Borromeo in October 1985. During his tenure the front of the church was modified, and the vestibule was enlarged.

During the administration of Father Juan Ruiz (Father John) improvements were made to the sanctuary. 

In 1997, St. Charles Borromeo and Sacred Heart of Jesus Montegut, became linked parishes under the administration of Father Robert C. Rogers. Although both parishes shared the same pastor, they both maintained their canonical status.

In July 2004, St. Charles Borromeo was unlinked from Sacred Heart of Jesus with Father Joseph Tu Tran being appointed as pastor.

In August and September of 2005, Hurricane Katrina and Rita hit Louisiana shores, We had water that came in the church. The floor in the church was redone with Miracle Crete.

In 2006 the church and rectory roofs were redone from the previous storms.

In 2008, hurricane Gustav on September 1 and Hurricane Ike on September 13 made presence to our parish. This time water came in the church and rectory. The church received new pews and redone that altar with ceramic floor.

The rectory’s old floors were all pulled up and ceramic tile as put throughout the entire rectory. The parish was out of the church and the rectory for around 6 months while renovating was going on. Mass was celebrated at the Knight of Columbus hall.

On November 18,2009, Father Joseph Tu Tran left St. Charles and Father Thomas Kuriakose was assigned as Administrator of St. Charles Borromeo Church.

On June 30, 2010 Father Thomas Kuriakose was assigned as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Church until July of 2017.

In July of 2017, St. Charles Borromeo and Sacred Heart of Jesus Montegut, became linked parishes under the pastorate of Father Robert-Joel Cruz. Although both parishes shared the same pastor, they both maintained their canonical status until July of 2018.

In July of 2018, Fr. Rajasekar Karumel Nathan who has been serving as Associate Pastor of both St. Charles and Sacred Heart was named Administrator of both parishes. 

In July of 2019, Fr. Rajasekar Karumel Nathan who has been serving as Administrator was named Pastor of both St. Charles and Sacred Heart. 

In July of 2022, Fr. Evelin "toto" Buenaflor was named administrator of St. Charles and Sacred Heart in Montegut.
