Abstract: A growing concern for the health and safety of children exposed to pesticides has prompted a vast collection of literature. The purpose of this study is to determine a correlation between children’s school performance in areas of heavy pesticide application, based on some of these previous literature. Three regressions were run using data from the California Department of Education and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for Fresno County. A map was also created to enhance visualization of the issue for the county. A correlation was indeed found, including the third regression’s endogenous variable truancy, used to measure illness. While only a correlation was found, these findings may show a possibility in which pesticide exposure could create negative health externalities for children who attend schools within a certain application area. More studies are needed to explore further into this matter with a fine-toothed comb and determine true causation.
