Art of Problem Solving Scholarships

The State Mathematics Contest Committee is pleased to offer scholarships of up to $150 to take a course on the Art of Problem Solving Website. These courses, which range from preparation for MathCounts to the USA Math Olympiad are individual courses that you can take online. They are of the highest quality and should help you grow mathematically.

These scholarships are for North Carolina residents and are intended primarily for younger students (grades 7 through 11) and for students who have exhausted most of the resources at their own school. Priority will be given to students who are currently under-represented in the participant pool of the contests of the State Math Contest Network. This includes, but is not limited to, females, minorities and students from rural or small schools that do not have a math team.

If you are interested in taking one of the Art of Problem Solving courses, you should fill out the application (link below) at least one month prior to the registration deadline for that course. If awarded a scholarship, we will send you a gift certificate that you can then redeem for a maximum of $150 toward the cost of your course. You and your math teacher, math coach, or parents should look at the courses available and select the one that best fits your ability level. The Contest Committee wants you to be in a course that is appropriate to your skill level and, of course, want you to complete any course that you start. Your math teacher or coach should be aware that you are taking a course and can mentor you along the way.

Please only apply if you are a current resident of North Carolina.
