COVID-19 Statement

January 2022 Update

Well, here we are again. Unfortunately due to the spread of the omicron variant and the uncertainty of being able to secure a physical space, we're cancelling the 2022 state math contest. Though some have asked about the possibility of a virtual contest, we feel it's important to have participants gather in person for the contest, hence our decision to cancel this year.

January 2021 Update

Unfortunately due to the continued complications surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not hold any contests at the state level in spring of 2021 (i.e. no Comprehensive Finals at NCSSM nor Level 1/2/3 State Finals at the 3 regional sites). Individual qualifying sites may opt to hold some form of their contest in a format they choose, but most or all are not holding a contest in 2021. We regret not providing an opportunity for students this year; we highly value both everyone's safety as well as the benefits of holding an in-person contest. Thus we're hopeful to hold in-person contests in 2022.

17 March 2020 Update

After many, many emails, discussions, consternation and deliberation, we have decided to cancel the 2020 State Math Contest for all 4 divisions (Level 1/2/3 and Comprehensive). We explored options of offering the Comprehensive finals online, but the complications (especially around security) outweighed the benefits of offering an online version. It's been a tough decision, but given the circumstances, we think it's the best decision given the information we know now.

We wish students our best as we navigate our responses to the spread of COVID-19.

16 March 2020 Update

We have now cancelled the in-person Comprehensive Division Finals at NCSSM. We are exploring options to potentially host the contest online; check back here later this week for more updates.

An update from the State Math Contest Committee co-chairs

12 March 2020

At the present time, we do still plan to host the 2020 Comprehensive Division Finals of the State Math Contest at NCSSM as originally planned. Though as the COVID-19 situation is rapidly changing, we are considering alternate plans in case we must choose to cancel the in-person contest at NCSSM. Details are still being considered; one such alternate plan may be to hold the contest virtually (i.e. online) on the original date of April 23. Please check this page again for future updates.
