Update, November 2014:

The committee recently decided to return the State Math Contest structure to 4 divisions: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and comprehensive. Over the next few weeks we'll update the list of sites and which divisions the sites will offer. An updated rules list can also be found online at this site here.

Original post from fall of 2013:

As NC public schools transition to the new Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, the NCCTM State Math Contest Committee is adopting a new contest division structure to take effect in the 2013-2014 school year. Instead of offering competitions in four divisions: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Comprehensive, competitions will now be offered in three divisions: Level 1, Level 2, and Comprehensive. Level 1 is for students enrolled in Math 1 (formerly Algebra I), Level 2 takes the place of the Geometry and Algebra II divisions and is for students enrolled in Math 2 or Math 3, and Comprehensive is still for students enrolled in courses beyond Math 3 (e.g. Precalculus). Complete rules can be found here.

Over the next few weeks the individual qualifying sites will be finalizing the divisions in which they'll offer competition(s); we'll soon update that list online. The state finals will operate as they have in the past, with the one change that the regional sites will offer finals in Level 1 and Level 2 only. The Comprehensive finals will continue to be hosted at NC School of Science and Math.

The Contest Committee is excited about this new division structure and look forward to continuing to offer exciting, challenging contests to NC students.
