Volunteer Information

As a STAR Volunteer You Can...

  • Help adults improve their reading, writing, or math skills or help non-native English speakers to improve their English
  • Tutor individuals one-on-one or in small groups with support from STAR Literacy instructional support staff
  • Work mornings, afternoons, or evenings based on the schedule that is convenient for you and your student
  • Fulfill an important need in your community*

*According to Bloomington-Normal Local Wiki (Illiteracy in Bloomington-Normal) the state of Illinois has an estimated two million adults who are unable to read or write. Approximately 6% of that number are believed to reside in McLean County.
