What is WEA-PAC and what does it do?
WEA-PAC is the Washington Education Association's political action committee. This committee of WEA members and staff endorses legislative, local, and statewide candidates for office.
Why should I join?
Nearly every decision influencing your career is made in Olympia by legislators. Salary, healthcare benefits, retirement plans, student testing, certification, class size, teacher evaluation, and curriculum are just a few of the issues decided in Olympia. In order to have a voice, we must elect pro-education candidates. WEA-PAC helps us have that voice.
How do candidates receive an endorsement?
Any candidate desiring an endorsement must submit a questionnaire, be interviewed by a committee of WEA-PAC members, and be approved by the WEA-PAC Board.
Candidates are endorsed based on their electability and how well their positions on education and union issues match our positions.
Party affiliation does not matter. If a candidate meets our criteria, they can receive an endorsement.
WEA-PAC members are encouraged to be part of the interview process.
