What is the goal of the SRSP camp? The goal of the camp is to expose high school students to some really interesting world-class qualitative research topics, such as: nano-materials, nano-devices development, Robotics, Quantum Computing and so on. SRSP will develop their leadership in science and research, and recruit these motivated high school students to pursuit their college degree in Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM).
Should I apply? If you want to change the world, improve your thinking and skills, or just want to learn some really cool research and hang out with smart people, then absolutely yes.
What is the application process? You have to submit the application package (application form, school transcript, recommendation letter). The selection committee will make decision based on your application materials.
How many student will be accepted? We intend to accept approximately 15-20 students.
Which High Schools are sending students to SRSP? Students are coming from local high schools, such as: North Carolina School of Science and Math, Hillside High School, Jordan High School, Southern High School, Durham School of Arts, Riverside High School, East Chapel High School, Chapel High School, Carrboro High School, Green Hope High School, Green Level High School, Panther Creek High School, Raleigh Charter High School, Enloe High School, Cary Academy, Durham Academy, STEM Early College at N.C. A&T, etc.
Who is eligible to apply? You are eligible to apply if you are in high school. If you are 15 years of age, please contact us to discuss the possibility of an exception.
How much does the camp cost? In order to attract the best students possible, the camp will be completely free.
Is there a stipend? We are not able to pay student stipends for attending SRSP this year due to reduced availability of funds.
Will lunch be provided? We won't provide lunch, but students can bring their own lunch or buy from University Cafeteria.
How is a typical day? It is from 9:00AM to 4:30PM. Students should report to the research Lab at 9:00AM in the morning, professor or graduate students will discussion the research project with you for 30-60 minutes, then work on your project; lunch time is from 12:00PM-1:00PM. Keeping work on your project in the afternoon till 3:00PM. A session of open discussion or seminar will be held from 3:00PM to 4:30PM. A discussion topic could be related to the research or high schools science subjects.
When and where will the program be held? The camp will be held at NCCU, from June 23rd to July 18th 2025.
Is it possible for an extension work on the research project? Yes, a few best performing students might be invited to an optional three weeks (July 21 - August 7) summer program.
Can I use the results for state science competition? Yes, we encourage student to take part into competitions, please talk to your research mentor about your plan and get the permission and support for using the results, we did have student competed at the NC Science and Engineering Fair, and placed high.
