Our research is focused on the intermolecular interactions and mechanisms of chemical reactions, first of all, processes involving electron transfer from one molecule to another. Recent research projects address the nature and properties of some intriguing intermolecular interactions, such as halogen bonding, anion-π bonding and long-distance ion-radical bonding, which attracted increasing attention of scientific community during the last decade or so. These interactions lead to formation of structurally well defined supramolecular complexes, which are vital to molecular recognition, reactivity of organic and inorganic systems, functioning of bio- and pharmaceutical substances, as well as crystallization and solid-state properties of molecular materials.
This research was made possible by three consecutive grants from the National Science Foundations: (about $ 300 000 each) and one ACS Petroleum Research Fund grant ($70 000).
