RAMAKRISHNA MISSION VIDYALAYA, INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT, COIMBATORE
The Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, is a major educational branch center of the Ramakrishna Mission started by Swami Vivekananda in 1887. The Vidyalaya is situated about 19 kms from the Coimbatore City on the highway to Ootacamund, and is set in a serene environment spread over about 300 acres. The Institution was founded by Sri T S Avinashilingam in 1930, a close associate of father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi and disciple of Swami Shivananda - brother disciple of Swami Vivekananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The founder was the first education minister of Tamil Nadu.
Sri Ramaksirhns Mission Vidyalaya strives to infuse the educational and spiritual ideas of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi into the daily lives of its students. Emphasis is laid on their all-round growth and enrichment. Universal values such as self-reliance, self-control, patriotism, service and dedication to duty are taught in various practical ways. A band of monks and brahmacharis of the Ramakrishna Order manage the activities of the various institutions assisted by a highly professional and dedicated team of teaching and non- teaching staff.
The suffix 'Vidyalaya' attached to the Coimbatore Centre of the Ramakrishna Mission is indicative not only of its origin as a school, but also of the vision of its founder that over the years the centre would grow into a veritable 'alaya', abode or complex of knowledge, vidya. And that indeed is what it is today, with 16 educational institutions beginning from the kindergarten to middle school to highschool, 2 higher secondary school, 4 postmatric technical institutions and 5 colleges. Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Univarsity’s two faculties (Colleges) also situated in this sprawling campus.
