Uttarpara Sri Aurobindo Parishad cherishes a special association with Sri Aurobindo. It is here on, 30th May, 1909 that Sri Aurobindo delivered his historic "Uttarpara Speech" at Uttarpara Jaykrishna Public Library ground before a ten thousand strong crowed. In this speech he revealed, for the first time, his "Vasudev Darshan" in the prison cell and indicated a shift in his life towards the spiritualism. While celebrating Sri Aurobindo's birth century celebration in 1972, few eminent citizens of Uttarpara decided to set up an organization dedicated to Sri Aurobindo.In 1991, Uttarpara Sri Autobindo Birth Century Committee was transformed into Uttarpara Sri Autobindo Parishad, as the former outlived its relevance.
