Structural Analysis of Minimal Set of Words in Recognition of Online Handwritten Gurmukhi Words (PhD Thesis Work) (11/2013 to 1/2018)
Description: - The major contribution of my research study was the development of an analytical sequential step by step online handwritten Gurmukhi word recognition (OHGWR) system based on minimal set of words and it performed recognition in four different writing environments. During my PhD research studies, we have developed benchmarked dataset for online handwritten Gurmukhi words based on minimal set of words. Further, the test dataset has been developed for Gurmukhi writing samples in different modes of writing. The PhD research study analyzed the unique challenges posed for online Gurmukhi handwriting recognition thoroughly. The reported study and analysis found the challenges for smaller units as well as larger units as words. The study has proposed efficient algorithms for dataset development, dominant points based feature extraction (DPFE), zone detection, boxed rearrangement of strokes and online handwritten Gurmukhi word recognition. The DPFE based feature vector is very small as compared to feature vectors built with traditional chain codes or other global or local features of trajectory. The feature vector with small size will be very useful for small devices as smart phones.
