Skills to Review from Algebra 1--2024

Below you will find a section for each of these skills.  It will include valuable links to notes, videos, or other tutorials.  Each section will also include a practice worksheet and key.

After that, is an intro to Geometry, combining Algebra Skills and Geometry. These skills include:

Week 1--Factoring and Solving Quadratics

This week will be a bit longer, as this is a BIG skill and has many components.  Feel free to break up your study/review as you'd like.  If you don't need the videos, that will save you a lot of time, as the videos can be long.

There are 5 main types of factoring.  (There are others, but these are the essential skills.)  Each of the 5 types have a unique video and explanation.  The worksheet has ALL of these problems, and an answer key.  

Worksheet  (each section of 10 problems relates to 1 kind of factoring, answer key at the end)

1. Factoring where a=1  (Problems 1-10)   Explanation of Factoring and Intro

2. Factoring where a>1 (Problems 11-20) 

3. Problems requiring the Quadratic Formula (Problems 21-30)

4. Special Cases or shortcuts (Problems 31-40) 

5. Completing the Square  (Problems 41-50)  

Factoring and Solving Quadratics are closely related, but not EXACTLY the same.  Below is a video to help you understand the difference, and to help you move from factors to actual solutions.

Week 2--Exponential Functions

This week is an entirely new skill.  We barely covered this during the traditional school year, but the main ideas can be understood in less than 30 minutes.

Week 3--Simplifying Rational Expressions

This week is a quick review, again, if you need more help, watching the videos and practicing step by step may take a bit longer.

Week 4--Operations With Rational Expressions

This week is a review of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.  It's a perfect combination of your factoring skills ad well as your simplifying skills.  Doing this is sure to help keep your memory and ability up to date.

Week 5--Intro to Geometry--Segments and Their Measures

This week is a combination of basic algebra and an introduction to Line Segments and how we measure and compare them.  This will be one of the first skills you see in Geometry.

Week 6--Intro to Geometry--Segment Midpoints and Angle Bisectors

This week is an extension of the line segments, but works specifically in angle and segment bisectors, using our Algebra factoring and solving skills extensively.

Week 7--Intro to Geometry--Angle Pair Relationships

This week is an extension of the angle pair relationships you studied at the beginning of 8th grade.  We will continue to use algebra to set up and solve equations based on the angle relationships formed in supplementary, adjacent, and vertical angles.

Week 8--Intro to Geometry--Lines and Angles

This week is an extension of the relationships you studied between the angles created with parallel lines in 8th grade.  You will set up and solve equations to find missing values and angle measurements in parallel lines.
