REMOTE LEARNING WEEK 6

(APRIL 27-MAY 1)

This week's check-in and assignment video. (5 Min)

You should have 5 total hours of I-ready. If you are not sure, check IC, and then contact Ms. Sprigg if you need to know how much time you have left to make up. (Essentially every missed point on I-ready means you need to do 15 minutes. If you had a 2, 4, 3, 2, m, you'd have a total of 9 missing points or 2.25 hours to make up.)

(APRIL 20-APRIL 24)

4/19--Weekly Update

Video

Answer Keys to Last Week's Work:

4/20/2020--Monday Funday!

ENTIRELY OPTIONAL

FANCY

Get FANCY! We've been living in PJs and sweatpants and leggings. Fancy yourself up! Shower, do your hair, if you wear make-up put some on. Choose a nice outfit! Take a selfie and bask in the joy of LOOKING GREAT! Cleaning up and feeling good is one of the many ways to boost your mood and get through this!

FAVOR

Do a favor for someone who hasn't asked! Help a parent with a chore that you don't normally do. Play with a sibling without them asking. Bake a treat and take it to a neighbor. Go out and pull some weeds in the yard! Or break down the ice on the sidewalk that hasn't melted. Do something for someone else, kindness makes your brain feel happy!

FIND

Last week your teachers shared their middle school photos. Can you find a photo from when you were younger and share it? It would be so much fun to see our "Little 8 Blue kiddos"!

FORGIVE

In this era, a lot of people are reaching out to those they have lost touch with. It seems like a month or two of isolation allows us to forgive others for slightly smaller transgressions. :) Reach out to someone that needs forgiveness.

BELT

Singing is really good for you. In addition to the healing power of the right kinds of music, singing along has a ton of health benefits. Find or create your own "BELT IT OUT" playlist and get singing.

BOAST

There's a lot to get us down these days. A lot of stress, a lot of missing out on events, projects, and passions. But one way to focus on the positive and to change our point of view is to "Brag" about yourself. "...And there is so much power and strength in naming! Name the progress you’ve made, the skills you’ve learned, the habits you’ve formed, and so on." (source)

So, send me an email or a text and brag about something. ANYTHING you are proud of. A good friend posted a whole video this week about her pride in wearing REAL pants for the first time weeks. I put on makeup the other day and I LOOKED GOOD!

What can you find to celebrate or brag about?

REMOTE LEARNING WEEK 3

(APRIL 6-APRIL 10)

The district announced Monday as a Teacher Work Day AFTER these plans were written. I have adjusted so that "Fun Friday" is now "Monday Funday" and is entirely optional. The rest of the week will be even/odd/even/odd, but all work is due on Sunday at 5pm. I record grades Thursday and Friday to keep you and your parents up to date on what I have seen. YOU WILL GET FULL CREDIT for anything turned in by 5pm on Sunday, I just fill in what I have so there are no surprises. Feel free to work on Monday, and submit if you would like!

I have to cancel my office hours on Wednesday, as my cat is ill, and has to go to an oncologist. I will be online throughout the day to answer emails and chat, but am unsure of how long her appointment will last and what care she will need. I apologize for not being available during my normal office hours.

1. CREATE

You may have seen it on social media, but stained glass is going viral! Create your own "stained glass" on a window, or with chalk on the sidewalk or driveway. https://www.craftymorning.com/paint-your-own-stained-glass-windows/

Not your thing? Try creating this cool optical illusion 3-d Hand art! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNEXzvnD7mI.

2. COOK

Help your family out. There's a great site: https://www.supercook.com/#/recipes where you go to your fridge and pantry and say the ingredients you have on hand. As you add more ingredients, the site offers more and more recipes you can make. Try to make a dinner or dessert out of what you have on hand!

3. CALM

If you've been feeling a little stressed and overwhelmed, try some meditation. https://consciouspanda.com/best-guided-meditation-sites/

4. CARE

Now's the time! Choose someone who deserves some love and recognition. Send a few texts, emails, or good old-fashioned greeting cards to show someone you care. Thank them for their friendship, their mentorship, their service to the community. Who can you show you care?

5. CLEAN

Believe it or not, it's spring cleaning time. A great way to de-stress is to de-clutter. Choose a declutter strategy and go for it!

FUN FRIDAY!!

In a short schedule, we often just grade Math Mates and start a new one. I decided Fridays should be for exploring outside of the Math World. So here are some choices. Do 1 of these things and enjoy it.

How many? 1!! Just do one of these things below.

How long? As long as you want, but about 30 minutes!

Graded? Nah, enjoy it, do what you like, I don't need proof.

1. Music as Meditation and Escape.

Garth Brooks put on a little "concert" online last week. He sang some James Taylor music, who, if you don't know, is my imaginary boyfriend. James Taylor is my "escape" music that I listen to when I need a lift. One of his songs is my ringtone! Here's one that just soothes my nerves when I need it. Who is your "go to" artist when you need to calm down? Listen to that artist for 30 minutes. You can rest, meditate, color, but use this 30 minutes as a BREAK and not a social media, multi-tasking time. If you want, send me a note telling me who you listened to and how you felt when you were done.

2. Lost at Sea

Sometimes when things are tough, it's better to think about how much worse they could be. This is a bit more fun. For this activity, gather a few friends for a Google Hangout and talk through your choices and decide how you would survive. Here's the document you need. The first page outlines the scenario, but you and your group have been on a yacht that sunk and you have recovered 15 items. You and your team need to rank the items from the most important to survival down to the least important. You can google the vocabulary if needed. Do not cheat and look at the answers. When you agree on your rankings, look at the answers based on the US Coastguard recommendations. If you want, send me a copy of your rankings and who all participated in your chat!

3. Explore Fractals

What is a Fractal? Now that you've learned a bit about them, choose a Fractivity, from the link below. My favorite is: Go on a nature walk (keeping your distance) looking for fractals. (Video to help you get started).

Fractivities

If you want, send me some proof of your fractal experience!

4. Math Workouts

There are tons of ways to stay fit at home. If you are someone who likes to move, try a home workout, choosing from the list below:

5. National Park Tour

Explore a National Park through a Google program. I've always wanted to go to Carlesbad Caverns since I was in about 4th grade and did a project on them. (I really should go.) Choose a park! Go explore. If you want, send me a note about what you found, loved, wondered about, etc.
