The new initiative from the trials committee for a cadet licence has had a super response, an evaluation day run by the committee was extremely well supported with 8 new competitors passing the test ( all demonstrating themselves to have great control and conference ) and were cleared to apply for their cadet licence from Motorsport Ireland.

Bernard Bradley brought all paperwork into Dawson street and everything is now in place for the first event of the season. It is now hoped we can attract more motor enthusiasts / petrol heads with young people in their lives in to sporting car trials. If you know of somebody interested please make contact.

The day it's self was very well supported with over 35 club members turning up to support the kids, Roy Stuart (MEC) was in the hot seat (Clark of the course )

The kids listened to every word Roy had in the way of instruction, then lined up for testing. First was an oral test to ensure their knowledge of the MI rules, then three test sections set out by Percy Pennefather. ( wonder if all our current competitors would pass!!)

Testing was undertaken by Alec Watkins, Tony Farrell and Robin Taylor. Trials committee members Philip Erskine & Pat Fox were on hand to oversee this initiative into which the committee had put so much work.

We started the day with a social pre drivers meeting BBQ , drivers briefing then testing, I think everybody was impressed with the ability of the 8 young drivers, who all passed. The day ended as it started with a drivers debrief and more rasher sandwiches!

It it with sincere thanks to everybody who has supported the youth drivers in motorsport and the work undertaken to make it happen, There was an extremely positive " good feel" to the day, one hopefully of many we will have for the future. ( see photos)Gallery

See you all at MEC's first event of the season...might even have a sussage sandwich before driver briefing! P.s. don't forget your bibs.

Yours in sport
