Researchers were interested in the feeding behavior of invertebrates, one being the cuttlefish. They knew that more information about their feeding behavior and preferences could help with future capture for further studies. The olfactory organ revealed the presence of ciliated chemoreceptor cells. The suckers in the arms of both species showed ciliated tapered receptor cells, (Archdale, Vazquez, Anraku, et. al). An experiment was performed to see if they could sense and develop a preference for the intake of certain amino acids. Bait containing amino acids (L-Ser, L-Ala, L-Arg, Tau, L-Glu-Na, L-Pro, L-Glu, and Gly) were ingested, but those with Bet and quinine-tcl were touched with the arms and to ingested (Anraku et. al., 1998).
