I grew up in the small southwest Virginia town of Salem, and was fortunate to be surrounded by my grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, and even a second great aunt and uncle. I always wondered how my family came to settle in the Roanoke Valley, and started working on my genealogy over 20 years ago with the help of family members. The evolution of the internet and online databases, such as Ancestry.com, made it much easier to access records from around the world and find family members and their stories.
This site follows the paternal lines of my mother - The McCormacks - and my father - The Spencers. The lines are broken up into a story format instead of generations. A ** by a name denotes my direct line. I have included all or parts of reference documents where possible, and links to other sites and sources.
This site isn't meant to be exhaustive, but a start for family members who just want to know a little more. You can navigate using the menu above or follow the links below.
