Each year, Toastmasters International hosts two speech competition tracks:
Spring: International Speech competition
Fall: Humorous Speech competition
Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmasters around the world compete in the Humorous and International speech contests (plus Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics contests held in conjunction with the Humorous and International contests).
Competition begins with club contests and winners continue competing through the area, division and district levels. The International competition has two additional levels — semifinal and international.
To make it simple, here's how it works:
Step 1
If you're appointed by your local club contest (Speaking of Liberty), you're eligible to compete at ...
Area Speech Contest
Step 2
If you're one of the top winners at the Area level, you would then be eligible to compete at ...
Division Speech Contest
Steps 3-5
If you happen to become the division winner, you may advance to the ...
District 55 Speech Contest.
The only level beyond the district level is the International Speech Contest. For the International Speech Contest, the district winners advance to the International Speech Contest Semifinals held at the Toastmasters International Convention. Winners of the semifinals will go on to compete in the World Championship of Public Speaking, also held at the International Convention.
Here's the flow ...
Club --> Area --> Division --> District --> Semifinals --> World Championship
