Lockheed Hudson IIIA FK790

The following images depict the rear fuselage of Lockheed Hudson IIIA FK790, in particular, the area occupied by its serial number, sometimes quoted in error as 'FK780'. They were provided by Bob Body, nephew of the Hudson's pilot, Flt Lt John Watherson 'Ian' Menzies, DFC, who was lost with his three fellow RAF crew members from 161 Squadron and four Dutch nationals on the night of July 5/6, 1944.

The Hudson was recovered from the IJsselmeer in 1997 and the tail section subsequently put on display.

Bob notes: I can confirm that the serial number on the tail is FK790. It was my uncle's aircraft and when it was lifted from the waters of the IJsselmeer I was there to see the wreckage. I also saw the tail were it was on display and the number was clear there.
