Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register for upcoming courses?
You click on the link sent for the registration through Eventbrite and register for our course. If you wish to register for the year, it is best to pay during September or October. If rest of the year, it is more economical to pay by meeting.
Are the meetings in person?
Our meetings are now virtual via zoom. You will receive a link sent to the email you registered with to connect via zoom when you register for each course via Eventbrite. If you have difficulties, please send an email to spandspeech@gmail.com and a board member will assist.
Can I receive partial credit for a meeting?
Unfortunately, you must be logged on and attend for the entire time in order to receive credit. We have had members log on at later times but they do not receive credit for the course. If you log in after 6:10pm you may continue to attend, but unfortunately you may not receive credit. If you do have connection issues, please see connectivity issues for answers.
How do I receive credit for the course?
You will receive an email coming from Eventbrite 24-48 hrs after the event sent to the email you registered under with a link to the certificate along the code to log into TSHA if you are a member to add your hours to the list. If you do not receive an email within 72 hours, please email spandspeech@gmail.com and a board member will assist. If you are requesting a certificate immediately after the event, please understand it takes our board 24-48 hrs to verify attendance and your request will be responded to within 48 hours. Please check SPAM folder prior to reaching out if after the 48 hour timeline.
What do I do if I register for the event and I am no longer able to attend the course?
If you registered for the course through Eventbrite and are not able to attend, please email spandspeech@gmail.com and provide us with the details of your situation and a board member will get back with you. While refunds are not able to be provided, you will receive credit for a future course.
What do I do if I am logged to a course and I get logged off and log back on. Will I still receive credit? (CONNECTIVITY ISSUES)
During the course, we have board members that are continually monitoring attendance and to assist with any difficulties our members may have. If you lose connection and log back on, you will still be able to receive credit. If you have any questions, please free to email spandspeech@gmail.com or send message via chat and one of our board members will respond back to you as soon as possible.
What do I do if I can’t find my certificate after the course is completed?
Please wait 24-48 hours before determining if your certificate was not sent as it takes our board members that long to verify attendance. If you still have not received it after 48-72 hours, please look for emails from Eventbrite in your spam folder to ensure they have not been sent there. If you still are not able to locate your certificate, please contact spandspeech@gmail.com for further assistance.
Do I have to be a SPAND member in order to attend a SPAND meeting?
No, you do not have be a SPAND member. You can choose to attend as many meetings as you want.
How many CEUs do I get for a year if I become a member?
If you become a member for year, you could receive up to 16 CEUs per year if you attended all the meetings, including our all day Saturday workshop in February and include two hours of required ethics that are held in September yearly.
When are the meetings held?
Our meetings are typically held virtually on the 1st Tuesday each month in September, October, November, April, and May as well as a six-hour workshop held the 1st Saturday in February.
How do I register for a course?
You have to sign up for each and every course you want to attend through Eventbrite. Be sure to include your license number and TSHA number if you are a member when you register. There will be a link sent to your email that you can click on. When you register, please select the correct option that applies to you. There is an upcharge through Eventbrite (SPAND does not receive the fee for this). You will enter your first name, last name, email, your cell phone, your Texas SLP license number and TSHA number if a TSHA member. You will also answer if you are registering as a new member of SPAND (yes or no), a member, or a lifetime member and click that you will accept the Eventbrite Terms of Service of service. How do I get on the mailing list?
Be sure to look on our social media sites, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to get latest updates and can request to get on the mailing list by emailing spandspeech@gmail.com
How do I make sure I receive credit for the course?
Make sure you registered with all of your information through Eventbrite and are logged in the entire time during the workshop. Our board members will verify your attendance and a certificate of attendance will be sent to you within 24 – 48 hours after the course.
How do I attend a course?
Be sure to register through Eventbrite and select the appropriate payment type that is applicable and be sure to log on before the course begins and remain logged in the entire session. You are able to watch from any device that has zoom capabilities.
How much does it cost to attend a SPAND course?
Pay-Per-Meeting Course Fee - $20
Membership Fee (which covers all 2-hour courses from now through May 2023 and gives a discount for the 6-hour workshop in February - $55 (those that paid for a membership in September will choose the free option for paid members when registering for this course).
Who do I email if I have trouble or difficulty registering for a course?
Be sure to click on the link sent to your email from spandspeech@gmail.com and click on Eventbrite link and follow the directions provided. If you continue to have difficulties, please email SPAND for assistance.
Do you report my hours to TSHA or do I have to?
SPAND will send you the certificate of attendance to the email you registered under the event via Eventbrite and it is your responsibility to send to TSHA. If you are a member of TSHA, your name will automatically be included in the roster and uploaded to TSHA.
What do I do if I can’t hear the sound during the presentation?
Please check to see if your volume is turned on and all the way. If you still are having difficulties, please contact spandspeech@gmail.com and a board member will see if they can assist during the presentation.
Why is my speaker icon muted during the presentation when I have not touched that button?
SPAND has worked hard to provide continuing education to our members and we want to be mindful of our speaker while they are presenting so sometimes our board members mutes the audience to ensure the optimal atmosphere so everyone is able to hear the speaker.
Why are the meetings from 6:00pm – 8:00pm?
These meetings have been held at this time since it’s inception and have been found to be the most convenient for our members. We understand this is not the most convenient for everyone.
Do you only provide CEUs for school-based speech-language pathologists?
When we originally started, SPAND originally geared CEUs towards school-based SLPs but have branched off to provide quality continuing education for all speech-language pathologists.
Do you provide CEUs for audiologists?
At this time, we are only providing CEUs for speech-language pathologists. However, anyone is welcome to attend if they register through Eventbrite but we are not able to provide them with continuing education hours for their discipline.
How come you do not provide ASHA CEUs?
While we have considered obtaining ASHA CEUs, we are a small organization and it is not efficacious at this time for us to do so. We will consider getting them in the future if it becomes feasible.
Do you have to be an SLP to attend?
Anyone is more than welcome to attend a course but only SLPs and SLPAs may receive credit.
