Chorister Training Scheme
JUNIORS
When Boys and Girls first come along to sing with us they are initially known as JUNIORS.
After about 4 to 6 months, individuals are invited to become FULL MEMBERS (or CHORISTERS).
This allows time for everyone to get used to the commitment required, and to get to know most of the music we sing at Sunday Services.
Admission as a Chorister is mainly based on:
Commitment and Attendance
Letting us know when absence is necessary
Making a contribution to the singing
Individual invitations are sent out, and we usually admit all of our Juniors within six months of joining.
The short admission ceremony is held during Sunday Services.
Boys and girls are presented with a white surplice, which is worn over the blue cassock.
MEDALS
After becoming a full member (CHORISTER) there is the opportunity to work to achieve various medals.
Occasional Saturday training sessions are held to work for these awards.
Each Level has a workbook with various targets to complete.
The various levels are achieved in this order:
Medal with Light Blue ribbon
Medal with Dark Blue ribbon
Medal with Red ribbon
More Advanced Awards:
Bronze Award with Green ribbon
Silver Award with Burgundy ribbon
Leadership in the choir
As well as the opportunity to work for medals, there is also the opportunity over time to become leaders within the choir.
Team Leaders
Those who show signs of leadership are considered for the role of Team Leaders within the choir. In addition to singing, their main role is to help others, assist with jobs that need doing, and help with organising.
Head Choristers (and Deputy Head Choristers)
Those who show outstanding qualities of leadership as Team Leaders may then be invited to become Head Choristers. We normally have two Head Choristers and sometimes a Deputy Head Chorister.
