Due to a winter storm in 2013 the party/meeting was cancelled. So we can look back and remember 2012.

Christmas Party
Several members took time out of the busy Christmas shopping and baking season to come and enjoy a relaxing get together with one another. My daughter enjoyed playing for and meeting so many of the members who were so friendly and kind to her. Maybe we should schedule a meeting for members to bring a grandchild some time to pass along our love of genealogy to. I was greatly tested by the abundance of "goodies" on the tables to enjoy. I stuck to the delicious wild rice plate and avoided the sugary snacks and tasty looking coffee cakes. A guest came and I had a wonderful discussion with him about some family papers and family trees that he had purchased at a historical auction. Yes I have seen family items on e-bay so this site should be added to the ones you check. An interesting subject was also brought up in regards to what we should share. I was introducing my daughter to one of the members who knew my aunt who had died of alcoholism years ago. I have other ancestors who committed suicide I have uncovered. So the question arises of whether we should keep these things quiet or pass them on in our trees? I think as a lesson to the future, and possibly to show how this can be passed through a family DNA (if this is true), it should not be hidden. This leads to another research possibility by checking for Temperance Society records in your research. You may have to hunt for these but they can give clues to your families sensibility and moral and social concerns in the past. Being such a dark subject I will save further discussion for the January meeting. But these side discussions at the meetings are sometimes as great a learning experience as listening to our speakers.
Enjoy the Holidays and I hope to see you at the January meeting.
