Southington Youth Summer Theater WORKLIGHTS 2026
THE 2026 SHOW IS NEWSIES, JR.
The 2026 WORKLIGHTS include students from Grades 4-5.
Worklights will be directed by Jazmin Lorenzo.
$200 per student
PROGRAM DATES: June 22-July 11th at Southington High School from 9:00-1:30.
Performances will be held on July 10 and 11, 2026 at Southington High School.
WHO?
Students entering grades 4-5
WHAT?
A three week theater workshop teaching the three basic elements of musical theater: acting, singing and dancing.
Students will perform a workshop of NEWSIES, JR.
WHEN and WHERE?
The program will run from 9:00-1:30 from June 22-July 11, 2026 at Southington High School. There is no session on July 3.
Students are invited to attend the Footlights dress rehearsal on July 17.
Registration Cost - $200 per student
*****Please do not register for this program if your child will miss more than two days for a prior commitment. Absences should be reported to staff.
WORKLIGHTS will rehearse Monday through Friday from 9:00-1:30 starting June 22 at Southington High School. The program runs three weeks and will culminate in a production on July 10 and 11 at 7:00 pm. We will also attend the Footlights dress rehearsal on July 17.
There will be no rehearsal on July 3rd.
A mandatory parent AND student meeting will be held in May. Policies will be discussed and parents and students will sign student contracts at this meeting. All audition material will be distributed and reviewed during this session. Students should be able to show a current report card as proof of residency and grade level if necessary.
Auditions for WORKLIGHTS will be held in May.
WORKLIGHTS ATTENDANCE POLICY:
The workshop requires commitment, dedication and a team effort. DAILY ATTENDANCE IS MOST IMPORTANT!!! We must be informed in advance of all vacation days or activities which would require absence from rehearsals because this will affect scheduling and casting. Students who will miss any more than three days are INELIGIBLE for Worklights.
Be aware that the daily program runs for THREE WEEKS - to miss a week for vacation is to miss a third of the program. A student who is going to be away will NOT be considered for a significant role. A student who goes away without telling the staff in advance will be REMOVED from a significant role.
If a child misses the program for vacation, it cannot be assumed that he/she can "make up" missed work. The rehearsal schedule is tight and once something has been taught, it is nearly impossible to fit in the time to teach it to someone who was not there. If a child is missing from the from the learning of a dance or scene, it is likely that he/she will not have an opportunity to be added after the fact. As always, it is our goal to include as many students as possible in as much of the show as possible. However, when students are missing from the ensemble, it is very difficult to "pretend" they are there when blocking dances and scenes. Because of past difficulties in managing absences due to vacation, we feel that it is necessary to enforce this policy and to make everyone aware of it before registering.
